A discount digital camera Artilce for Your ViewingDigital Cameras: Getting Better Photos of Family and Friends
Taking photographs of the people in your life is simple with a digital camera. We all have collections of images which represent the important people and events in our lives. Some of the pictures are great, but some leave our subjects stiffly posed, lost in the sea of a cluttered background, and often lacking personality as they stare back with the same "posed" face as in every other photograph. So how do we capture the detail and the personality so that the image saves for us a more meaningful record of a moment or a person?
Obviously, professional photographers take control of the background and lighting, direct the pose of their subjects, and use a great deal of creativity with props and camera controls to assure the highest quality image. For the average person however, candid shots are more effective in capturing the true meaning or personality at a given moment. For these individuals, following just a few basic tips can go a long way in obtaining photographs that will become a treasure for many years to come.
* The subject should be the focus of the picture. Avoid a cluttered background so that it does not distract from the subject. Using the viewfinder allows the photographer to determine how the shot will look. If the background is too cluttered the subject can be moved, but in more candid shots of individuals, holding the digital camera in a vertical position sometimes helps to eliminate some of the background.
* Step in close to capture more detail. For an image that captures the true personality and emotions of the subject, a photographer must get facial detail. When taking a candid shot and stepping in closer would disrupt the moment, use of the digital camera's optical zoom or telephoto can have the same effect.
* Some shots don't require posing. Many of the most meaningful shots are taken as subjects interact or are engaged in an activity. From images of children at play, a spouse reading the morning paper, a parent and child talking, or grandma gardening these are the moments that reflect the true personality of subjects.
* Happy is good, but there are other emotions worth capturing. It adds depth to a subject when images reflect other feelings such as humor, concentration, relaxation, or even boredom.
* A relaxed subject makes for a better photograph. When posing subjects, many photographers suggest talking to them to get them to relax and reveal more of what they are feeling or thinking. A natural, relaxed posture will provide a better image than that of a person standing rigidly with their arms crossed. A subject may be seated with their head resting on their hands or standing with their head at an angle and hands in their pockets; posture varies in real life and should be varied in photographs as well as it reflects the subjects mood.
* It is sometimes acceptable for a subject to be looking away from the camera. Just as with expressions on the face and posture, variations in where a subject is looking can work well in capturing a more meaningful image. Whether it is a child daydreaming as they gaze out of a window or simply an attempt to catch the profile of an adult as they drink their morning coffee these images which most accurately capture a subjects personality don't always require that they face the camera directly.
* Use the portrait setting on the digital camera for individual shots. The portrait setting will set the depth of field to focus on the subject.
* Focus on the subject can also be enhanced by framing them. For instance, a subject may pose in a window, an arbor, a doorway, sitting on a swing, or something similar to focus attention in the image on them.
* Lighting does matter. Although natural light outdoors is generally the best lighting for photographs, direct sunlight must be used carefully as it causes harsh shadows. Using the fill flash on a digital camera can help to reduce such shadows. Otherwise, taking shots in the shade, on an overcast day, or in the morning or evening when the sun is less harsh can help alleviate this problem.
For images that truly capture the personality of people that matter to us, photographs taken by family members can offer a dimension that is very difficult to capture in a studio. A willingness to experiment with more relaxed and natural poses or to avoid posing completely will provide a collection of photographs that reflect and record our lives more accurately.

Customer Review: Pragmatic Choice
After reading the reviews of Garmins costing over twice as much as the Nuvi 260 and seeing that many people still weren't completely happy with their choice, I came to the conclusion that the technology had not completely arrived yet, so I would buy a GPS with the minimum bells and whistles and wait for the technology to really catch up to the expectations most people had before sinking a ton of money into another GPS a few years from now. The Nuvi 260 met the minimum requirements and is an interim solution. As such it works just fine, and I think the limitations of the software would be the same with just about any GPS, no matter the cost.
Say for instance you want to find a TJ Maxx store nearby. The 260 will find it for you, but it may or may not be on the way to where you're going otherwise. (I could drive another ten miles and be happy with the next store nearer my route, if you get my meaning.) I doubt any GPS could do that, though, so it's nice just to have one that tries as hard as it can.
Bottom line, you still have to prepare for your trip, have a general idea where you're going, find addresses to plug into the unit, and be ready to make some decisions if you don't like where the unit is directing you. GPS's can only do so much at this moment in time. It's already helped me find a Subway that was tucked into a strip mall well off the freeway in Maryland, and done other miraculous things. But it didn't tell me about the street closure in Manhattan, and it didn't match the recommended way to get to the Toledo Museum of Art from I-75.
In other words, they're not perfect. Yet.
So just buy a mid-range unit that has the minimum features you feel you need and live with it for the next few years.
Customer Review: excellent tool
The Garmin Nuvi 260 has met the majority of my expectations! It has proven to be an excellent tool navigating areas one is not familiar with and rural areas. My only negative comment would be the instructions should be given for turns etc. just a little sooner, due to city traffic conditions. The voice cues are good but you need to get used to the sound of the voice the unit uses, as it can require a second listening or a quick look up at the units written instructions to understand what the unit told you to do! All things said, it is worth every penny I paid for it! I don't go anywhere without it!

Customer Review: excellent
purchased to use with cybershot camera...works perfectly, arrived in about 4 business days!!! would definitely do business with this vendor again.
Customer Review: Great Memory Card
I don't care what anyone else says, Sony makes the best memory cards. A lot of people complain because when they buy a Sony product they find out that they can only use a Sony memory card... I honestly don't think that their complaints are founded on the quality of the memory card; their complaints are more like a knee-jerk reaction to feeling like they're being forced to buy a certain brand. My question is, why does that bother you? You clearly like Sony, or else you wouldn't have bought the original product. And yes, Sony memory cards are sometimes a bit more than others (they are getting better about that though) - but it's also a name brand, those are always going to be higher, no matter which name brand it is, plus the Sony cards are of altogether better value and quality than a lot of others. Of course there are a lot of great, cheap memory cards out there, but honestly even if I could use one of them in my Sony products, I wouldn't - I would only use Sony in my Sony product... maybe it's just me, but I dance with the guy I came with (in other words, I stick with the brand I bought).
This is a great little memory card; I actually just gave mine away (to my mom) for her new sony cybershot. I upgraded to a 4gb in mine (which I also love). I needed to upgrade because I take a lot of pictures at their highest setting and I needed more room. However, the 1gb did take a tremendous amount of pictures too.

Customer Review: We thought they broke
We thought the speakers were broken because at times the sound on one speaker wouldn't emit. So when we try to switch speakers between the bass sockets it still didn't work. But I guess it was just my computer. Now it works amazingly! And we love these speakers. The sound quality and bass are amazing
Customer Review: Well worth a c-note
A hunnerd bucks. Come on, folks, you aren't going to get Magneplanars for twenty Lincolns. What you will get is a nice, smooth 2.1 system with several distinct advantages not related at all to the excellent sound quality..
1. Nice big volume control, with a boom-knob to boot, and a power button, and a headphone jack. Seriously, that nice big volume control is worth something. My wife had these speaks on her PC, and when I swapped the Z2300s out for something smaller, she damn near filed for divorce. She misses her big old volume control.
2. The sub is big enough and deep enough to double as a PC stand. It's important to get your puter off the floor, and this does it, to the tune of 10".
3. You can take the grilles off and go all Darth Vader Geek on your office space.
And they sound great. They play loud without irritation. Midrange a bit dim? That's why God made equalizers, d00d.
An aux input, like Logitech puts on their later models, would be icing on the cake, but that's a minor kibbitz.
If you have a $100 budget for speakers, don't want to hassle with 5.1, and want a big subwoofer, you can do worse than this set, but I suspect you won't do much better.

Customer Review: Canon Powershot G9-Great little camera
I decided to invest in another digital camera a few months ago and started to research cameras. I'm not a camera buff and didn't really want to be but I do want to learn enough to take good pictures. The G9 had consistantly good reviews. I checked it out at a camera store to make sure it felt right. Amazon had the best price. There are some cheaper ones but look out for what they don't put in the box (like batteries and charger) One of the things that put this camera over the top for me was the fact that it offered the ability to take RAW pics.
The camera is easy to use. I am still learning all of its features, of which it has many, many. It will take me awhile. I am very happy with it and look forward to taking even more pictures. It's been a great camera for me and I'm very happy with my purchase.
Customer Review: Canon G9
I'm very disapointed that Canon did not put the pistol grip on this camera. I caught one on display at Best Buy but I was very disapointed that the pistol grip was not included on the model. I have arthritic hands and the pistol grip really helped me quite a bit to hold the camera. On this grip they have now, no wait, there is no grip!! It's just a thin small rubberized strip, thinner than a pencil. When I held it, my thumb was on the setting on back, which I was afraid, would really mess up my shots if I wasn't careful. To me, I guess it's more of a feeling of comfort for the grip and this was disapointing. It felt like I was holding a 2x4. I won't be buying one of these. Why Canon wouldn't put the grip on, I don't know. I'll either go with the 10mp or to one of the DSLR's. Canon--- you need to remake the G9!!!

Writing is something that has to be enjoyed. And with camera filters, we have indeed enjoyed writing all that we know about it. We wish you also enjoyed yourself.
Another Great camera filters ArticleSticky Pod Car Cameras
We here at Sticky Pod want to convey our knowledge and experience of which camera makes and models work best with the Sticky Pod when attached to any car, truck, van, boat, motorcycle, airplane, RV, motorhome, trailer or any other vehicle. Some cameras work great and others, by design, will just not work very well. First let's look at cameras mounted to a vehicle.
Cameras Mounted To A Vehicle
Sticky Pod car cameras can be the smallest bullet (lipstick) cameras up to the largest Hollywood film cameras mounted to any vehicle on the planet. However, some cameras clearly perform much better than others. The first thing we want you to realize is the materials that the camera itself is made of. All cameras are made out of plastic with a metal subframe under the plastic to hold everything together. These metal subframes are the key to making a camera work well with a Sticky Pod. The first thing you should look for in any camera, is one that has a metal mounting socket. That's the screw hole that you use to attach the Sticky Pod to your camera. Almost all cameras use them, but some very small cameras do not have room for them, so please be careful what you buy. As you will see when you go out to buy a camera (or in your existing camera), many of them have a plastic mounting socket. These cameras still have a metal subframe, but the manufacturer chose to use the plastic housing to support your camera on a mount. This is the worst type of mount for use with a Sticky Pod. The plastic flexes and you cannot tighten the camera to the Sticky Pod as it will strip the threads inside the camera. Since the plastic on the camera will flex, this produces shaky, unstable video while driving, and is not the fault of the Sticky Pod, but of the camera itself. We do provide you with video instructions on how to use your Sticky Pod and we do provide some examples of what you can do to minimize the shake of a camera with a plastic mounting socket.
On the other hand, there are many makes and models of cameras that use metal mounting sockets. These cameras have a mounting socket that is connected directly to the metal subframe of the camera itself. This is an excellent camera to choose for it's strength and stability when mounted to a Sticky Pod. Not only can you get a good tight fit to your Sticky Pod, but these cameras produce far more stable and usable video, photographs or film. So before you buy, be sure to compare cameras and their physical features.
What To Do Next?
If you already have a camera with a plastic mounting socket, you can still use it with a Sticky Pod, but you may find the videos or photographs to be undesirable when using your camera at high speeds on the inside or outside of any vehicle. That's not to say that you should not try or that you cannot use the camera somewhere else. Sometimes the road you're driving on is very smooth and the camera will not bounce or vibrate. Other times, you will use your Sticky Pod in a stationary environment, such as surveillance from a window in your home or office. Remember, the Sticky Pod can stay in place for several days on a window or any other smooth non-porous surface. We also provide a tether for added safety in the event something happens when you're not around, something our competitors don't even offer and they never have. That should tell you something about us. Any way you look at it, the Sticky Pod will hold your camera in more places, for a longer time, than any other camera mount on the market today. The secrets in the suction cups.
If you already have a camera with a metal mounting socket, congratulations, you have a perfect fit for any environment. This type of camera has the strength and durability for many years of use and it works great with any Sticky Pod model.
Selecting Your Car Camera
As you can see from above, the best choice is the one that meets your physical requirements. If you're never going to use a Sticky Pod in or on a car while driving, then any camera with any style of mounting socket will work. However, it's not always easy to predict the future, so we highly recommend you select a camera with a metal mounting socket. Other factors to consider relate to the environment you will be placing your camera into. For example, if you plan on capturing videos or pictures from the outside of your vehicle while racing, a very good idea, then we recommend a camera that has the following physical features:
Metal mounting socket
Small and lightweight (many cameras today can weigh less than 1 pound)
Small battery (not the extended run batteries)
Lens filter (ability to attach a lens filter to help protect the camera lens)
You should then look for the following electronic features:
Digital or electronic image stabilization (more on this below)
MiniDV video tape format (all MiniDV produce DVD quality video)
i.Link or IEEE 1394 Firewire Port (to transfer the videos or pictures to your computer)
You should avoid buying digital video cameras with hard drives or DVD recording because of their inability to record in such a hostile environment. Every time you hit a bump, the camera will likely stop recording because of the jarring motion. It's a feature that's built into the camera to protect the hard drive or DVD write head.
The short list above encompasses a vast majority of cameras on the market today. Any local store will have several choices for you to choose from. Just be sure to get a look at the bottom of the camera before you buy. Do NOT trust what the store associate tells you about your new camera. You should verify it's physical and electronic features for yourself by taking a new one out of the box and review it right there in the store.
If racing is not your style, but catching your neighbor, dead beat ex-husband (wife) or stupid criminals red handed, then the Sticky Pod is the best choice for your surveillance cameras. Let's face it, the Sticky Pod doesn't just give you a place to mount your camera, it holds your camera rock steady for crystal clear digital videos and photographs from any distance and in any lighting condition. If you happen to get caught in the act during a stake out in your car, you can take off with tires burning and never worry about your camera for even a moment. Now when it comes to surveillance, there are some great camera choices on the market today. Unlike the racing conditions above, you can use the hard drive and DVD recording cameras with excellent results. Some of these cameras can record DVD quality videos for up to 37 hours! We want you to recognize that this is a huge amount of power in your hands. The best part is, the Sticky Pod can endure for much longer than 37 hours. We have had Sticky Pods mounted to flat or curved glass for more than a week at a time. They are that good! Here are the physical features we recommend for surveillance:
Metal mounting socket (you never know when you might have to speed off, but it's not necessary)
Large camera with a high optical zoom (be sure it's an optical zoom and not a digital zoom)
Large battery or AC/DC adapter (so you can plug it in for extended record times)
You should then look for the following electronic features:
Optical, digital or electronic image stabilization (many times this is not needed, but it's nice to have)
Hard drive or DVD recording format (hard drives can record up to 37 hours!)
i.Link or IEEE 1394 Firewire Port (to transfer the videos or pictures to your computer)
Low light digital video recording (consider night vision since most crimes happen at night)
Interval recording (creates time lapse video over many hours)
In this case, you want to buy cameras with a hard drive or DVD for recording. That doesn't mean that a video tape is bad, you just want to be sure the surveillance camera fits into the scenario you're recording. For example, if you want to record your car overnight from a window in your home, then a video tape that only lasts an hour will not do you any good. However, a camera that uses video tape and has interval recording capabilities will work very well for just such a scenario. The best solution for your surveillance needs always includes a good high resolution result. After all, if the police or judge cannot see the perps face, then the video is worthless. That's why it's important to have a good optical zoom on the camera you buy. Try to zoom in on the area or person you want to catch so you can clearly make out their face in the video or pictures. This also makes for a good reason to buy a camera with night vision capabilities. Once you have the criminal on video, then you can take action by contacting the police or local law enforcement and they will have all the proof they need to bring charges. If the person committed a crime, such as urinating in public, you will not have to press any charges. Just give the police the tape and they will take it from there. Since it's a crime against the community, your job is all done after you tell them who it is and turn over the tape.
Distinguishing Camera Features
What's the difference between optical zoom and digial zoom?
Optical zoom allows the camera to capture zoom images without a loss of picture quality. Digital zoom degrades the quality of the picture the more you zoom in on the subject. It will get to the point where you cannot even see the subject. That's why digital zoom is a worthless feature on all cameras and optical zoom is what you want to focus on (excuse the pun). In night time situations, the optical zoom is the only way to capture crystal clear images from a distance. The optical zoom also works very well with the night vision.
Why is digital or electronic image stabilization better than optical for racing?
Optical image stabilization uses two lenses to stabilize a given scene you have in your viewfinder. There's a second lens behind the one you can see on the outside of the camera that moves in the opposite direction of the cameras movement. This helps maintain a clear image of the scene in your viewfinder. The problem is, the stabilizing lens floats inside the camera and cannot handle the bumps and jarring from racing or just normal driving. The digital or electronic image stabilization does degrade the picture quality, but it's so slight that it's impossible for the naked eye to see.
Why do I need an i.Link or IEEE 1394 Firewire Port (always referred to as a firewire port)?
These are all one in the same, they are just referred to by either term. Just look for either one on the camera's features. The reason you want a firewire port is because of it's ability to transfer large amounts of video in a short amount of time. Just a few minutes of video tape will take up many gigabytes of hard drive space and transferring all that video to your computer can take a long time. The firewire port can transfer up to 400 megabytes of video per second. That's faster than the tape itself can run. That's a good thing. Also be sure your computer has a firewire port to accept the video from your camera.
Which Camera Brands Make Good Sticky Pod Car Cameras? When you're ready to buy a camera, remember your operating environment. Ask yourself a handful of questions such as; Will I be using my Sticky Pod camera for surveillance? Will I be racing my Sticky Pod car camera? Will I be driving around town stopping road rage or making an independent film? Here are some camera brands we have worked with during our video productions:
Sony PD-150 and PD-170
Sony F900
Sony HVR-Z1U
Canon XL-2
Canon Optura 50
Panasonic DVX-100B
Panasonic HVX-200
Panasonic PV-DV401
Panasonic PD-DV203
So which ones worked well and which ones failed. A failure in this case is unusable video. Our operating environment is that of mounting the camera to the outside of a vehicle and driving up to highway speeds. The optical image stabilized cameras by Canon did not perform well. If we had to give a rating, 10 being the best, we would give the Canon Optura 50 a rating of 3, and the Canon XL-2 would rate a 6. The Sony cameras listed above are also optical image stabilized and performed the best of all the cameras listed. We would rate the Sony HVR-Z1U a 7, the PD-150 and PD-170 an 8, with the Sony F900 getting a 9 out of 10! The Panasonic HVX-200 is also an OIS (Optical Image Stabilized), however we would rate it a 7 out of 10.
Sony appears to have a better grip on optical image stabilization (OIS), but all the camera manufacturers are getting better at producing cameras that handle tough environments. Don't shy away from any of them, just use them in a manner that will produce stable usable video for your video productions. All cameras have their limitations, with a minimal amount of practice, you'll be a pro in no time.
The remaining cameras in the list above all have Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), and provide a great picture under all operating environments. We would rate them an 8 out of 10 for the smaller cameras and a 9 out of 10 for the Panasonic DVX-100B.

Bird watching and monitoring animals without intruding on them are all possible with the Q-See outdoor cameras.
Customer Review: Q-see cameras and customer service are terrible.
I just purchased this Q-See nightvision camera as a replacement for a Swann unit that stopped working. I thought I'd try the competition and see how they work. Right out of the box it had a red tint over half of the screen. I thought I could live with that as long as the image was fairly clear but by dusk I noticed something wrong. I could barely see anything compared to my other three Swann cameras that still had a bright, clear image. By nightfall I only had a black screen. I sent my daughter outside to shine a flashlight at the camera to make sure it was still working and sure enough, I could see a small white dot and nothing else. I tried calling Q-See's customer service and their automated customer service disconnected me after three fifteen minute waits. I finally got a human through the switchboard and was told they would put me right through to returns. Then I got a voicemail. I'll just return this camera to the trash can where it belongs and get another Swann.
Customer Review: Very good camera
I purchased this camera for the front of my house to work with two others.
Small and solid, pretty good picture during the day and at night it has a very clear (NOT GRAINY) black and white night vision. So far this is the best camera I have purchased. No complains for the price paid. I was really amazed at the clear night vision, my other two cameras are very grainy at night. This camera was mounted on one corner of the house and watches the cars parked in front on the street, I can see 3-4 cars parked end to end, another looks down on the front door, and the last one is on the opposite corner of the house looking at the drive way. The further back that you can mount these cameras lets you have a wider field of view.
